WhatPDF Online · Markup

Mark up a PDF the way you would mark a printed page, then save the result.

Highlight important areas of a PDF

The highlight tool can be used for reading and review. Use it to mark a clause in a contract draft, a paragraph in a report, a line in study notes, or an instruction in a manual. Opacity and colour controls let you keep the underlying page visible instead of covering it with a solid block.

Underline or strike through material

Underlining can draw attention to a line without flooding the area with colour. Strikeout comes in handy on review copies when a word, phrase, or section should be removed or reconsidered.

Draw freehand on PDF pages

Freehand pen markup is done in a much faster way, since it draws than types, and can be useful to circle a number, point an arrow at a problem, sketch a quick correction, or jot a handwritten note. On a touchscreen or pen-enabled device, it can resemble a marking paper. On desktop, a mouse or trackpad works fine for simple strokes.

Add rectangles and ellipses

Shapes are especially handy for screenshots, diagrams, plans, forms and dense pages where a highlight does not clearly identify the intended area. Draw a rectangle around a field that needs attention or an ellipse around a number, date or visual element.

Markup versus adding text and signatures

If you need to type a name onto a form or place a signature, use Edit & Sign PDF. If you are commenting on the document visually: highlighting, underlining, drawing or adding shapes, use Markup. Keeping those jobs separate makes both interfaces more distinctive.

Why annotate a PDF locally in the browser?

Review copies can also be of a sensitive nature. A draft contract, internal report, manuscript, client document, or marked-up form may contain material you’d rather not send to a remote processing service. WhatPDF Online is designed so supported markup operations happen right in the browser, rather than by deliberately uploading the document contents to UsefulKits for annotation.

Keep the original if the markup matters

Markup can be useful evidence of a review process, but it can also make a clean document harder to recover if you overwrite your only copy. WhatPDF exports a new marked PDF; keep the original clean version until you know the annotated version is the one you want to circulate.

Yes. WhatPDF Online includes visual highlighting along with underline and strikeout markup.

Can I draw on a PDF?

Yes. The free Markup workspace includes a freehand pen plus rectangle and ellipse shapes.

Can I use markup to redact private information?

How UsefulKits handles information

Website, browser-app, contact, checkout and download information in one place.

Browser-app records generally stay on your device. UsefulKits does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts on this website.
01

This website

The website does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts. Its main text, images, videos and scripts are loaded from the same website.

02

Contact messages

When you use the contact form, the name, reply email address, subject and message you enter are sent through an email-delivery provider. A temporary hashed network identifier may be used briefly to limit repeated automated submissions. Contact details are used to answer the message and provide support.

03

Stripe checkout

UsefulKits uses Stripe for secure checkout and payment processing. Stripe processes payment information under its own privacy and payment policies. UsefulKits does not receive complete payment-card details.

04

Secure download delivery

For secure Stripe delivery, the site verifies the completed Checkout Session before releasing a purchased ZIP. It may record the session ID, payment status, amount, currency, download count and download times. Card details are not stored.

05

Browser-app data storage

Browser apps supplied through this site may store app records locally using standard HTML5 browser-storage technologies such as local storage, IndexedDB and browser cache. Unless an app states otherwise, locally stored records are not automatically synchronised between browsers or devices.

Clearing browser data, using private browsing, changing browsers, resetting a device or losing access to it may make locally stored records unavailable. Use any export or backup controls provided and keep backup files somewhere safe.

06

HTML5 browser-app safety

UsefulKits browser apps are supplied as HTML, CSS and JavaScript files that run inside a compatible modern browser. They do not require a native installer or administrator access. Modern browsers isolate web content within a browser sandbox, and an app cannot access unrelated files unless you choose a file or grant a browser permission.

No file format can guarantee complete safety. Use an up-to-date browser and open only copies obtained from the UsefulKits website.

07

Optional app functions

Some apps may provide receipt scanning, camera access, file import, file export or currency conversion. Browser permission is required for relevant device features. Review scanned, imported or converted values before saving them.

08

No financial advice

Budgeting, planning, reporting or record-keeping functions provided by UsefulKits apps are organisational tools. They do not provide financial, tax, legal or investment advice.
